| Carlos started trialling in the nurseries at the end of 2018. His first trial saw him finish 2nd in the nursery class and 5th in the Open class. He went on to win or place in every nursery trial he entered but towards the end of the season, I felt I needed to back off a bit. So after finishing 6th at the All Wales Nursery final, one place behind his litter brother, Pele, and qualifying to represent Wales for the first time at the Four Nations Nursery Final, I decided to give him a break from training and just take him to work with me for a few months. This was our preparation for the Four Nations Nursery final (in March 2019), where Carlos performed well finishing 5th overall.
2019 saw Carlos's first year in the Open class. In May he won his first Open trial, qualifying him for the Berwen double fetch final in June. On the huge Berwen course, he surprised me by finding both groups of sheep but timed up in the shed with one uncollared ewe still to dig out. I entered Carlos in the Defaidty Hill trial for experience and he finished a creditable 8th place in qualifying.
In August, Carlos was 3rd in the High Ash double fetch final. At the Llanarthne trial, he won the first qualifier and went on to place 2nd in the double fetch final. With Pippi injured, I entered Carlos as my reserve in the Welsh World Trial qualifying trial in September. To my surprise (and delight) Carlos qualified to represent Wales at the 2020 World trial (subsequently cancelled due to covid). This was a tremendous accomplishment for such a young dog.
In 2023, Carlos has once again qualifed for the Berwen double fetch final
after winning his qualifying trial. Later in the year he won the Nantymoel Hill Trial double fetch final after winning the qualifying trial. He also scooped the award for the best outrunning dog overall.
2024 has started well for Carlos with him qualifying for the Defaidty Hill trial double fetch final, finishing 7th in the final. He finished the season as the International Brace Champion and Reserve Welsh Brace Champion with Kinloch Taz.
2025 he started the year with a good second place finish in the final of the fiercely competitive Llangadog trial and then won the Cwmdu trial. He went on to win his qualifying field for the hugh Berwyn Hill trial and won the final making him the 2025 Berwyn Champion.
